Mompreneur

Have you heard the term “mompreneur?” If not, it’s time to get acquainted with the new generation of entrepreneurs. No longer do women have to settle for either having a career or a family. Today, we want it all, and we can have it. Read on for a few quick tips on how.

Sell yourself, not a product

First, it’s important that you put yourself in the mindset that it’s you who people will buy into.

Your personality, determination, and charm will go a long way, no matter what business you’re in.

While many women choose to sell products that we love and use. Think of Thirty-One, Mary Kay, or ItWorks — the truth is that people can buy these anywhere. Your friends, family, and future customers will buy from you when they see your passion.

You also want to get cozy with the process of building your online presence. Digital Agency Network explains that operating online is a necessity in the world we live in. You’ll need, at minimum, a website and a strong social media presence.

Tackle business basics

Passion matters, but so does practicality. Even if business is not your forte, you’ll need to take care of a few things before you get ramped up so that the road ahead won’t be a whirlwind.

One example: forming an LLC. This is a type of business structure that protects your personal assets, such as your home and vehicles, against legal action if something doesn’t work out in your business.

You don’t have to be an attorney to register an LLC, but it’s probably best that you understand your state’s laws and regulations. It’s also a smart idea to open a business checking and savings account and look into potential tax write-offs for using your home as an office.

Take care of yourself

Just as important as mastering your business and taking care of administrative tasks is taking care of yourself.

Let go of the notion that you have to find work/life balance, and embrace the integration of your professional endeavors into your personal life.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t pull away from work sometimes because you absolutely have to, to create harmony. But you can find ways to treat yourself well without sacrificing your potential next sale.

Answer emails while taking a bubble bath, talk to your spouse or partner about helping with the kids, and don’t feel guilty if you have to answer a quick phone call while you’re on vacation.

While this is definitely not a comprehensive list of ways to manage being a mom and a business owner, it’s a great start.

Remember — sell yourself, handle the practical, and learn how to walk in both worlds at the same time. You can have it all if you’re willing to do the work.
